It all began when a group of California surfers went to Brazil. There, they were introduced to a tiny, purple berry from the Amazon Rainforest called “açaí.” Pronounced (ah-sigh-ee), this little superfruit not only tastes great, but it is jam-packed with antioxidants, omegas, fiber and protein. They discovered that harvesting açaí would create jobs and help protect the rainforest, so they decided to create the Sambazon corportation and share açaí with the States.

One of the many things that sets Sambazon açaí apart from açaí manufactured by other producers is the fact that Sambazon’s product is 100 percent organic açaí fruit. At this time, there are no USDA regulations on how much fruit must be present, so many manufactures water down the product.

Açaí spoils very quickly and loses most of its nutritional value 24 hours after being harvested, which is why you are unable to buy it in berry form. So, Sambazon scrapes the pulp off the seeds and creates a puree as soon as the berries are harvested. The puree is then flash pasteurized, quick-frozen and shipped.
